In February 1995, ZOSO, The Ultimate Led Zeppelin Experience was brought together in Los Angeles, California. Bound and determined to create the most mesmerizing and accurate portrayal of the original band, each individual member was selected to portray both the image and playing styles of Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, John Bonham, and John Paul Jones. Together the quartet pays homage with its powerful and unmistakable Zeppelin sound.
Since its conception ZOSO has played a remarkable 2000 shows (and counting) in just under eleven years. Their passion, musical ability, showmanship and “we don’t cancel” attitude has made them America’s #1 certified Led Zeppelin show. If you missed Led Zeppelin live in the 70′s or are looking for a great chance to relive the Music, Magic and Mystery of Zeppelin, you must experience ZOSO. The sound and visual effects will astound you and bring you back to the “Hammer of Gods” era (from 1968-1980).

Bellies For Life is an annual all belly dance breast cancer fundraiser. Thanks to the special amazingly supportive community in Champaign-Urbana, almost everything required for this night is either donated or accounted for by volunteers (dancers, emcee, doorman, camera man etc). This minimizes the costs and maximizes the total donation. Other than money that BFL strives to raise, via this festive event, breast cancer awareness and encourage young women to perform self exams. This is a night of fun and entertainment, all the while for a extraordinary good cause.

The Magician EP (Stiff Slack), TLAT’s fourth overall release, is a fad-free snapshot of a band that’s constantly morphing from a dragon, to a butterfly, to blinding white light, to a bird, to Godzilla, and back again, often within the space of just one song. RIYLs don’t do the band justice from a recorded or live standpoint, but suffice it to say that the sound on the Magician EP puts them in company with artists like Pink Floyd, Slowdive, My Bloody Valentine, Swervedriver, Built to Spill and just a pinch of early U2.

Without a doubt, the mighty Reverend has won a cult following around the world these past 20+ years with a nearly endless touring ethic and musical style that’s equally as rooted in tradition as it is in breaking it. He’s one of the lynchpins of the neo-roots movement and responsible for moving the genre forward and garnering it a whole new generation of fans. Acclaimed singer, songwriter and bandleader Fred Eaglesmith is a genuine iconoclast and true original. It’s the natural result of following the cue of his musical career and now 19 albums with the January 2012 release of 6 Volts. The result is one of the most fascinating and musically rewarding careers in contemporary music.
As he has doggedly gone his own way as an independent musical artist, Eaglesmith has also enjoyed such high profile rewards in recent years as having his songs covered by country superstars Toby Keith, Alan Jackson and Miranda Lambert, among many other accomplishments.
6 Volts is yet another landmark on a journey. The album takes its title from the battery that powered the game-changing transistor radio – introduced in 1954, the same year that rock-n-roll emerged into popular consciousness – and embodies the notion of back to the future. Captured live in the studio with one microphone onto a one-track reel to reel recorder like so many enduring classics, 6 Volts also bristles with contemporary urgency.

Cursive is the longtime trio of Tim Kasher (vocals, guitar), Matt Maginn (bass), and Ted Stevens (guitar, vocals), with Patrick Newbery (keys) and Cully Symington
(drums). I Am Gemini (out February 21, 2012 via Saddle Creek), the band’s seventh LP, is the follow-up to 2009’s critically praised Mama, I’m Swollen, which caught the attention of publications including Alternative Press, Billboard, Playboy, Rolling Stone, and Time Out New York, among others, and earned the band their network television debut on The Late Show with David Letterman. Cursive has released six full-length albums – including the heralded Cursive’s Domestica (2000), The Ugly Organ (2003), and Happy Hollow (2006) – two EPs, a disc of rarities, and numerous singles since the band’s 1995 inception.
The band is also known for their vital, magnetic live show, earning rave reviews from outlets including the Cleveland Scene’s C-Note music blog (”[Tim Kasher’s] effect on the crowd was chilling last night…Cursive was focused and on-spot, composed and gripping”), Nuvo Weekly (“…the five-piece slashed through a near-perfect set of songs from their last nine years of albums”), and the Orlando Sentinel’s Soundboard blog (“…the band still knows how to rock on stage…[Cursive] thrashed away with an abandon that heightened the passion of Kasher’s dense, emotionally charged wordplay.”).

Sarah Balliet: cello, keyboards
Matt Armstrong: bass, noises
Dagan Thogerson: drums, percussion
Scott Brackett: keys, coronet, accordion, percussion, mandolin, vocals, theramin
They may call Bloomington, Indiana, home, but since their 2000 formation, Murder by Death have been a band without musical borders. Theirs is a world where Old West murder ballads mingle with rock-injected aestern classicism; where an album’s sequencing can take listeners from a haunted back alley in rural Mexico to a raucous Irish pub. All of which is to say, Murder by Death albums don’t just string together songs; they create experiences. With their fifth album (and second for Vagrant), Good Morning, Magpie, Murder by Death continue the tradition of border expansion that drove career standouts like 2006’s In Bocca al Lupo and 2008’s Red of Tooth and Claw.

The unique combination of ukulele, violin, tuba, saxophone, bass, rock drums and latin percussion swing you from sweet to funky with a sound that will remind you of summers gone by, road trips to come, and long-lost friends you’ve never met.

Hard Time In A Terrible Land (EZRA)
Ezra Furman & the Harpoons have made numerous album of the year lists with their debut Banging Down the Doors and sophomore release Inside the Human Body. They have gained critical acclaim for performances with Lou Reed at South by Southwest, Alec Ounsworth of Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, The Walkmen, Spoon, and Delta Spirit, as well as at major festivals such as Lollapalooza. They have attained international notoriety by soaring to the number-one spot on European radio stations and playing to thousands at Barcelona’s Primavera music festival. Ezra personally embarked on the quixotic feat of recording an original and personalized song for every person who bought a special self-released EP. On top of all of this, Ezra Furman & the Harpoons deliver live performances that will leave you buzzing with excitement.
Furman gallops and crashes around the stage like an asylum-bound Buddy Holly complete with endearing hiccups and frightening tics. He not only christens every tour with a nom de rock, but also titles each individual gig. Furman’s witty and effusive conversations with the audience, along with his heightened attention to the crowd’s prevailing mood and the shows named like children, creates an extremely personalized feel for every performance. The band grinds out riffs stoically and belts out harmonies spiritedly as they lay the aural ties to support the verbal locomotion of Furman as he careens and caroms about, filling the room with the boiling-hot emotional steam of a fully bared soul.

SATURDAY APRIL 28TH… BAND OF HEATHENS
Doors/Bar Open 7:00pm

Band Of Heathens 8:30-10:30pm
PRESENTED BY WWHP “THE WHIP” 98.3

The guys in the Band Of Heathens are fond of saying they became a unit by accident. But that’s like saying the Big Bang was an accident. Unplanned, maybe, but hardly random. One might even argue that a kind of destiny was involved. The merger of singer/songwriters/multi-instrumentalists Ed Jurdi, Gordy Quist and Colin Brooks, with bassist Seth Whitney and drummer John Chipman, from their respective solo careers and bands may not be akin to a cosmic explosion, but their album, One Foot in the Ether, offers irrefutable evidence that they were meant to be together — and have evolved into a solid entity worthy of the comparisons they receive to the Black Crowes, the Band and Little Feat.
The Americana Music Association’s 2010 list of Top 100 Albums of the Year found Band of Heathens “One Foot In The Ether” slotted in at #7!
